Fellowships & Stipends

The CCGP, with the assistance of the affiliated Humboldt Projects at the University Leipzig and, up until the academic year 2018/19, the University of Bonn, funds two kinds of fellowships: visiting fellowships and travel stipends.

The former allow individuals to come as visiting students or scholars to Leipzig or Bonn; the latter help to cover the travel costs of students and faculty from the University of Chicago who wish to participate in conferences, seminars, or summer schools on German philosophy or in intensive German-language courses in either Germany or Austria.

Visiting fellowships take the form of monthly stipends for varying numbers of months depending upon the character of the visit and are funded at the following three levels: (1) stipends for experienced researchers (more than four years since dissertation) for €3150 per month; (2) postdoctoral stipends (completed PhD required) for €2650 per month; (3) stipends for doctoral students for €1475 per month.

Travel stipends are designed to help defer costs — not to cover all expenses — involved in traveling to and participating in targeted events and are awarded based on the merits of the individual application and the total amount of funding available in a given year.

You can apply for all of these fellowships and stipends through this website. There is no application deadline: applications are assessed and stipends are awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year. They are evaluated by members of the CCGP Executive Board.
